LG K40 Review: First Look

LG G8, LG G8S and LG V50 may have attracted more attention to the MWC 2019, but at the exhibition the company showed a number of other phones, including a new collection of budget devices.

The LG K40 is the cheapest gadget from the line, which, unsurprisingly, is the successor to the LG K30, released in 2018.

The price of a new LG phone will be about a third (or less) of the company's flagships, and, although the specifications are not as impressive, the LG K40 offers a fairly wide range of options and features.

Release date and cost

Some details of the LG K40 have not yet been made public, including the price and release date. The phone will most certainly go on sale in the US markets, as was the case with the latest generation device. For the rest of the markets, which the company aims for, there is no information yet.

LG has not yet announced how much the phone will cost, but we cannot imagine that the price of the device will be much higher than the LG K30, which started from $ 200. But, of course, this is all guesswork and the company can certainly increase the cost of the LG K40, so we will follow the news and keep you updated.

Design and display

The LG K40 comes in a fully metal one-piece body, and we think that at the moment the smartphone is available only in one color - blue, which you can see in the photos above.

In the future, LG may decide to include more colors, but only one blue version of the phone was shown at the show. This is an attractive color, and, although the phone does not feel high-quality, it lies comfortably in your hand.

The model does not compare with products such as Moto G7, although with a glass back cover and rounded edges, with a thickness of 8.3 mm, it easily fits into your pocket.

There is a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone, which is quite easy to get when you hold the device in your hand. You may find it a bit annoying when you put the phone on the table, but in this case, you can use the power button and other ways to unlock the screen.

The screen in the LG K40 is a 5.7-inch IPS with a resolution of 720 x 1440 (HD +). This equals 282 pixels per inch, which is not as good as some other phones in this price range. Also pay attention to the aspect ratio of 18: 9 , which makes the smartphone more modern than some other low-end devices that do not follow the trend towards more elongated and narrow screens.

The phone is charged through the microUSB port in its lower part, while the 3.5 mm headphone jack is also located on the side panel.

Operating system and features

LG offers Android 9 Pie software right out of the box, and it will come with a LG shell, which will differ slightly from the user interface of other Android manufacturers.

As for performance, the K40 has a dual-core processor with a clock speed of 2 GHz, but we still have to find out the exact model of this chipset. The smartphone is powerful and will allow you to open various applications.

Standard phone has 32 GB of internal memory and 2 GB of RAM, which is pretty good, but if you are used to a more expensive device, this model may not be fast enough for you.

Battery and camera

The K40 has a 3000 mAh battery, and, considering that this is not the most powerful phone on the market, it should be enough for one charge per day.

Unfortunately, the device does not support features such as fast charging or wireless charging , which is not surprising given its price.

On the rear panel is one 16 MP camera. She, of course, will not surprise you, but if you want to take a new picture for social networks, the device will cope with it without any problems.

As for the front camera, an 8-megapixel module is installed on the smartphone, which so far has not been tested.

Early Verdict

If the price of the LG K40 is the one we expect, then the device can become quite a good budget phone.

The problem is that the Moto G7 line is already out, and this series at fairly low prices has some more impressive features than the LG K40.

  • Good amount of memory.
  • Display with an aspect ratio of 18: 9.

  • The screen is not Full HD.
  • Missing USB-C .
