BQ-5008L Brave review

The main advantage of the BQ Brave is the screen, which can withstand a load of 30 kg and fall from a considerable height.

Even the most affordable BQ devices have their “highlight” - and this approach of the manufacturer is certainly commendable. The "chip" of the model BQ-5008L Brave worth only 6 490 rubles - a screen, durable enough that Gorilla Glass "rests". The BQ catalog has another model with a similar advantage - the BQ-5022 Bond - but it was released a year and a half ago, its specifications have lost their relevance.

Can Brave Become a "New Bond"? Let's talk about it after getting acquainted with the novelty closer.

Bundling and design

The packaging of the Brave smartphone is made in the traditional version for BQ - it is a rectangular cardboard box in red and white. However, in front there is a new element - a note about the main advantage of the device.

The equipment is modest. In addition to the smartphone in the box:

  • Cable and power supply.
  • Warranty card and instruction booklet.
  • 20% off coupon for BQ branded accessories.

Film that is glued to the screen can also be considered as a complete accessory. But the case will have to buy separately - and with this it is better not to tighten, because unlike the screen the body of the device is shockproof.

The back cover of the gadget is made of ordinary plastic. It is easily removed. Under the cover are installed SIM cards (in the number of two) and a flash card MicroSD . You can occupy all the slots at the same time. SIM size is micro.

The design of the phone is quite simple, but it has some features. The MicroUSB recharge connector is brought to the top - I wonder why? Manufacturers sometimes do this to "clear" the bottom space for perforating a large speaker. But on the Brave the speaker is behind. This, by the way, is also a rather controversial decision - after all, if you put the device on the screen up, the surface will muffle the sound.

The lower end of the hull remains blank, as does the left edge.

All mechanical elements are located on the right (" Power " buttons and volume controls) and on the top end (except the MicroUSB 3.5mm headphone jack).

Brave is available in 3 color variants: black, gray and gold. We got a black device - in this variant, the smartphone looks albeit light, but strictly and tastefully.

The screen

BQ doesn't reveal what the technology behind the Brave screen is called, but it's not that important. The key to strength is a high content of aluminum and silicon, making the screen stand:

  • Load of 30 kg.
  • Falling from the height of human growth.

In addition, the screen is protected from scratches, so you can wear the gadget in one pocket with a huge bundle of keys without fear.

Note that the protection of the image quality on the screen does not negatively affect . The display of the Brave smartphone is covered with 2.5D glass and has a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels - enough for a diagonal of 5 inches. We did not have any complaints about the juiciness and saturation of the colors of the complaints, but if the picture still appears to you to be of insufficient quality, you will be able to adjust the image parameters thanks to the MiraVision function.

Cameras

The pictures taken on the rear and front Brave cameras will not exceed 8MP and 5MP respectively, although completely different figures appear in the device's specifications. It's easy to explain: gadget software lets you interpolate photos - that is, increase their resolution without losing quality. Similar technology is present in many other BQ models.

Flashes stand on both cameras of the device. The rear features a light f / 2.0. This gives her the ability to take bright enough pictures even in low light conditions.

Photo quality corresponds to the status of the smartphone - budget. The pictures taken with Brave will be suitable for Instagram, but the avid fan of photo art can hardly satisfy.

Productivity and software

The stuffing of the BQ-5008L Brave is standard for the budget model. MediaTek's 4-core MT6737V chipset and 2GB of RAM are responsible for performance. 16GB of internal memory is a bit much, but you can add another 64GB by inserting a MicroSD flash drive. What's especially nice is that you don't have to "sacrifice" one of your sim cards for this.

Initially, we had suspicions: did not BQ put on Brave their firmware, which will slow down the device? The thought of the "control center" pushed us to such thoughts - it looks a little different on Brave than on other models of the manufacturer. But no: the smartphone is running "pure" Android 7.0 and is quite "nimble".

The big plus of BQ is that it supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi data. Even more expensive models can not boast of this. We tested the speed of data transfer to Speedtest - the results were not upset.

4G Brave, of course, also supports.

A little frustrating is the large number of programs that are installed on the smartphone by default - the user may feel that they are being imposed. In fact, among the preinstalled applications there are many useful ones - for example, " Yula ", " BlaBlaCar " and " Yandex.Money ". However, if the user considers that these programs to him to nothing, he will be able to quickly delete them through " Settings ".

Sound

The call volume slider almost immediately had to be brought to the middle of the scale - not to scare people into the subway in the morning. Brave sounds so loud that you start to feel discomfort and embarrassment. Concerns about the speaker's location were confirmed only in part: the surface does indeed muffle the sound when the gadget is "on the back", but even so, the phone is perfectly audible.

Phenomenal volume is a consequence of using BesLoudness speaker amplification technology. You can activate / deactivate this function through the sound settings.

Autonomy

Unlike other novelty BQ - Balance - Brave models were not equipped with a heavy duty battery. On the 5008L is a battery with the usual for budget devices with a capacity of 2500 mAh. However, even this battery allows the smartphone to work without recharging for at least a day.

During 12 hours of active use of the gadget (periodic search for information on the Internet, connection to Wi-Fi, correspondence in messengers, several calls) the battery of the device was discharged by slightly more than 50% (from 85% to 29%). At the same time, the device has been activated " Power saver in standby mode " - a wonderful function that acts so neatly that the user does not feel any restrictions associated with battery saving.

Conclusion

The BQ-5008L Brave is essentially an "enhanced" Bond. The novelties have the same dimensions and characteristics of the screen, but more modern stuffing and software, more powerful cameras. The Brave smartphone lacks a fingerprint scanner (which, by the way, is "outdated" by Bond), but in our opinion it has an even more useful "feature" - 5GHz Wi-Fi support. The Brave's wireless internet is more stable and faster than its counterparts.

In general, Brave can be described as a durable and inexpensive phone - not claiming to be called "killer of someone out there", but with functionality sufficient to perform "vital" operations for the user.
