How to set up speed dial on Android?

Modern smartphones allow you to dial in a matter of moments. To do this, you only need to know how to use the corresponding function.

Speed dialing appeared in the days of push-button cell phones. Many contacts could then be assigned their own key - from 1 to 9. Holding the key for one and a half seconds led to dialing the number of the corresponding contact. Something similar is implemented in the Android operating system. But here the speed dial may vary, depending on the version of the OS and the type of proprietary shell.

The most common speed dial option

Most often, the smartphone manufacturer suggests using a virtual keyboard, which is used to dial the number. Its number keys may be responsible for calling specific contacts. It remains only to assign specific keys to the contacts. Let’s figure out how to do this.

Step 1. Go to the pre-installed “ Phone ” application.

Step 2. Go to the " Contacts " tab.

Step 3. Click on the vertical ellipsis located to the right of the search line.

Step 4. Click on the “ Speed dial ” item.

Step 5. You will be taken to a window where you can set speed dialing. By default, the number 1 is assigned to listen to voicemail, usually this item cannot be changed. But the numbers from 2 to 9 are free. Moreover, sometimes the manufacturer of the smartphone allows you to assign a call to subscribers and more complex combinations - for example, 27 or 49.

Step 6. Assign the call of contacts to the keys you need. To do this, select the number in the left column, and in the right, start entering the name of the subscriber. If a contact has several numbers, then you will be asked to select one of them. You can also do without entering a name - just click on the " Contacts " icon, then you will go to the appropriate section, where you just have to select a subscriber.

Step 7. You can remove a contact from speed dialing by clicking on the minus sign .

This example is based on the use of a smartphone manufactured by Samsung . On other devices, your actions may vary slightly.

Speed dial as a Favorites section

Some devices do not have speed dial as such. Instead, their Contacts app is similar to the Favorites section. In particular, you can see this when using the Nexus 4 smartphone. To add contacts to this section, the simplest steps are required:

Step 1. Go to the " Phone " application.

Step 2. Visit the “ Contacts ” tab.

Step 3. Click on the contact you want to add to “ Speed Dial ”.

Step 4. Click on the asterisk in the upper right corner. It was empty, and now it will be filled - this means that you managed to do everything you need.

Step 5. Return to the “ Speed Dial ” tab to make sure that the selected contact is in this section.

Step 6. The contact from the "Speed Dial " is removed in the same way - you again need to click on the asterisk.

Speed dialing on Android can be implemented in many ways. But in any case, it helps reduce the time it takes to dial the numbers of certain contacts, so we recommend that you use this feature regularly!

  • On a smartphone, DIGMA CITI Z400 3G installed according to customer recommendations for speed dialing. When you exit to the main window and press the "Phone" key, information appears that there are no numbers for speed dialing. What didn’t I finish?

A very specific speed dial algorithm in this device, which is not found in other phones. To understand it, I had to contact a service center.

Here, speed dialing is not possible if the contacts are saved on the SIM card, and not on the phone. The procedure in this case is as follows (I write in great detail, for the same "dummies" like me):
    1. Call up the LIST of CONTACTS
    2. In the list, click on the top icon "three vertical dots"
    3. In the dialog that opens, click "IMPORT-EXPORT"
    4. Activate the “FROM USIM” icon, then “NEXT”
    5. Activate the “IN PHONE” icon, then “NEXT”
    6. In the contact list that opens, check the box next to the one you need and confirm “OK”
    7. You will see that below the contact that you just confirmed, there will be another with the same name. If you click it, it will open, with an asterisk at the top of the icon for this new contact. While it is transparent (does not glow). If you accidentally click on the old contact, the stars will not be there.
    8. PRESS THE STAR - it will light up - this means that this contact is in the “QUICK CALL” folder
    9. Now, when you turn on the phone and click on the “handset” icon, you will immediately get to this “quick” folder and you will see your favorite contact there.

  • All clear. But I have a different problem. On a Moto G smartphone, the recently dialed numbers are constantly added to your favorite numbers. If you remove them, they are removed from the list of contacts.
