But now we live in an era of the widespread distribution of devices based on the Android operating system. Such smartphones are very similar to each other in terms of functionality. When and why is it needed?

The processor on the Android smartphone plays a very important role. It is he who processes all the commands. The more powerful it is, the faster the device will cope with the solution of certain tasks. Of course, RAM also does its bit, but the role of the chipset is still much more important. If you have just such a gadget, then you can forget about modern games with three-dimensional graphics. The exception is only Intel mobile processors - they are made by a special technology, as a result of which the power is usually quite enough. But it is becoming less and less possible to meet such chipsets every year, since the American company almost completely abandoned the development of this direction.

Types of processors installed

However, the same architecture can have a variety of processors. First of all, they differ from each other in the technological process. The most popular are the chipsets made by the following process technology:

  • 28 nm - now it is believed that such processors have too large transistors;
  • 20 nm - for such chipsets, the dimensions of the insides are already noticeably smaller, which has a positive effect on power consumption;
  • 16 nm - even more tiny transistors provide the processor with almost maximum energy efficiency;
  • 14 nm - this technical process was introduced in the second half of 2016, the chipsets made on it are superior in power to absolutely all competitors.

It is believed that in the future, creators will be able to introduce a 10-nanometer process technology, and the laws of physics will not allow further reductions in the processor internals, unless the structure of the chipset is changed. However, the current capacities of smartphones and tablets are more than enough, so there is no point in developing this area.

Of course, mobile processors differ not only in the method of their creation. Different they have other parameters:

  • The number of cores - in the simplest chips one core is used, and in the most powerful - ten and even more;
  • Clock frequency - the larger this parameter, the more powerful are the processing cores;
  • A graphics accelerator or GPU - it is he who processes the graphics in games and videos, in fact this is a kind of addition to the chipset with its own cores and frequency.

It is interesting that basically it depends on the processor whether the smartphone will support fourth-generation mobile networks. Also, far from all chipsets are capable of recognizing two or more SIM cards. And they differ in cost - the latest and most powerful models cost smartphone manufacturers $ 50-60 apiece!

Getting information about the installed processor

For example, AnTuTu Benchmark is excellent for these purposes. But he evaluates absolutely all components of the device, and therefore testing takes quite a long time. If you are only interested in basic information, then download CPU-Z . Initially, this program only displayed data on the processor, although now you can find information on some other components in it, for example, the version of the operating system and the amount of RAM.

To display information about the chipset using CPU-Z, follow these steps:

Step 1. Download and install the application using the Google Play online store.

Step 2. Run the utility by finding its shortcut on the desktop or in the menu.

Step 3. If you are using Android 6.0 or a newer version of the operating system, the program may ask you to give it permission to get acquainted with the system data. Give her all the required permissions.

Step 4. Next, you can navigate the tabs with various information. The chipset, its characteristics and load are indicated in the very first tab under the name SOC (from the word "Socket").
