Decreased attention, disruption of sleep and wake cycles, and most importantly - an additional strain on the eyes. All this can threaten those who spend too much time in front of the smartphone screen . Fortunately, night mode helps reduce negative effects.
On Android, the night mode (night theme) blocks the blue spectrum of colors, which just interferes with healthy sleep. As a result, its use can significantly reduce eye strain, especially in low light conditions.
Next, we will tell you how to enable night mode on Android and what to do if it is not on your smartphone.
How to enable night mode on a new smartphone
On almost all new Android smartphones, night mode is available by default. If you use the operating system version of Android Oreo (or newer), then without any problems you can activate it. How to do it:
- Open Settings.
- Go to the Screen menu.
- Here, find the item "Night mode" and move the slider to the "On" state.
- Or select "Reading Mode" in which you can manually configure scheduled activation and other parameters.
On some smartphones from Honor , Huawei , Asus , OnePlus , Samsung and Nexus, “Night Mode” is turned on differently (not through settings) or has a different name. For example, "Filter Blue." However, such functionality should be built into most modern devices of Android Oreo and newer.
How to enable night mode on an old smartphone
If your smartphone is running Android 7.0 (or an older version), then you're out of luck. Night mode is preinstalled on this operating system, but to get access to it you need to perform a number of additional steps.
The first thing to do is enable developer mode (System UI Tuner). Instruction:
- Go to settings.
- Here, find the “About Phone” item (at the bottom of the list).
- Tap on the build version several times and wait for the system notification “Congratulations!” You are now a developer. ”
After that, you can install the night mode activator. To do this, open the Play Store and download the Night Mode Enabler app.
It has only one “Enable night mode” button, when you click on it you will immediately get to the hidden menu from the developer panel (it must be activated in advance). Here, move the slider to the On state.
After that, the night mode will be activated automatically at sunset (in accordance with the time zone that is selected). If you want to set the schedule yourself or turn the night theme on and off manually, at any time, follow these steps:
- Open the notification panel and select "Change" or "Sort" here (it may have different names depending on the model of the device).
- At the bottom of the list, find the item "Night mode".
- Long press on it, and then drag it to the notification panel.
After that, you can turn on and off the night mode with one click, similar to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or data transfer.
3rd party applications
If you use Android One or the stock version of Android, then the above instructions will not help you. However, you can activate the night mode using the free applications available in the Play Store.
With their help, you can independently configure the blue filtering, as well as other useful parameters. We will not list all the free applications and name only the most popular of them: Night Mode, Blue Light Filter, Twilight, Dimly and Night Screen.
